College Football Week 8 Top Games

Ohio State () at Indiana

Buckeye fans remember this game well from last year. The Hoosiers took Ohio State down to the wire in Columbus and made superstar quarterback Justin Fields look pedestrian– a game that lived with him throughout the NFL Draft process. Fast forward a year, and Indiana is chomping at the bits to get a piece of Ohio State in Bloomington.

A major factor in their 2020 near-upset was safety Jamar Johnson, who has since departed for the NFL. Without Johnson, Indiana’s defense won’t be able to create as much havoc, but don’t discount them from giving Ohio State a run for their money in 2021.

USC at Notre Dame ()

In a year where one or both of these teams isn’t projected to be great, this is one of the top games of each season. This year, both teams are projected-top 25 programs with each producing national-award contending players. Kedon Slovis threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns against Notre Dame in 2019, his freshman season. The game was cancelled last season, but Slovis is a much-evolved passer since his 2019 campaign.

If anything, this game is a great watch based on prestige and tradition alone.

Coastal Carolina (OTB) at Appalachian State

Odds will be placed here once they are released.

The Sun Belt has been heavily featured on these top games lists of late. This time around, it is 2020’s sweetheart Coastal Carolina visiting Appalachian State. The Chanticleers took last year’s matchup at home, a game that really defined their season and vaulted them into the national stage. With the series returning to Boone, App State will be looking for revenge.

The Chants return 19 starters from last season, namely All-Sun Belt quarterback Grayson McCall. The Mountaineers finished 2020 ranked ninth in the nation in passing yards allowed and both teams finished top-15 in rushing offenses. This should be another high-flying Sun Belt matchup in a season where the conference might be at its all-time peak.
