Bulldogs Are Loaded
If Georgia is going to make another run at a National Title, this would be the year to do it. The Bulldogs are loaded at every position entering the 2022 season and offer great value to qualify for the four-team CFP. JT Daniels returns to quarterback a dynamic offense, while the defense adds Clemson transfer Derion Kendrick to an already start-studded unit.

Not only is this Georgia’s most talented team in years, but the Bulldogs can take advantage of a down year for the SEC. Alabama has lost a plethora of talent from their 2021 championship team, while Florida is rebuilding with the loss of Kyle Trask and Kyle Pitts. Aside from their opener against Clemson, Georgia should be favored in every game. This is the year to bet on Kirby Smart’s squad returning to the CFP.
Pick: Georgia to Make CFP (+170)

Buckeyes Will Dominate Big Ten
Until proven otherwise, Ohio State owns the Big Ten conference. The Buckeyes have qualified for the four-team playoff in consecutive seasons. Ohio State is loaded on both side of the ball, returning six starters on offense and five on defense. The Buckeyes possess the best 1-2 receiver punch in the nation with Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson.

The big question mark surrounding Ohio State is at quarterback, as starter Justin Fields has departed to the NFL. CJ Stroud, Jack Miller, and Kyle McCord are all talented pivots competing for the role. Once one of them takes the field and starts clicking with this offense, the value on the Buckeyes will disappear. No team has emerged as a legit threat to Ohio State in the Big Ten, which makes them a great bet to make the CFP.
Pick: Ohio State to Make CFP (-225)
Longshots to Consider
Betting on longshots to make the CFP will be more fun once the playoffs expands, but for now, it’s best to tread lightly. No Group of Five school has ever made the four-team playoff, and the Pac-12 has failed to produce a CFP team in four straight years. Alabama or Clemson could take a step back in 2022 after major offseason turnover, however, which would open the door for a longshot.

Iowa State at +500 is worth considering as they return a whopping 19 starters from a team that went 9-3 in 2020. Coach Matt Campbell has the Cyclones heading in a great direction, and they should challenge Oklahoma for the Big 12 crown. Breece Hall is one of the best running backs in the country and returns alongside QB Brock Purdy.
USC at +1000 is also tempting given the return of Heisman contender Kedon Slovis, but it’s hard to bet on a Pac-12 school given their playoff drought. You’re better off looking at the Conference Title odds, where Clay Helton’s squad offers value to compete with Oregon for the Pac-12 crown.
