Funds2orgs is having a Shoe Drive with all proceeds going to Care and Share in Crookston. The Shoe Drive will run from now, through November 30. The goal is to receive 2,500 pairs of shoes. Donation sites with binds in Crookston include Benedictine Living Community-The Summit, Cathedral Church, First Presbyterian Church, Wesley United Methodist Church, Hardware Hank, Hugo’s Family Marketplace, Trinity Lutheran Church and the front entrance of RiverView Health.  In Fertile at Aaron’s Grocery and in Fisher at the Cenex C-Store. Francis & Sharon Lizotte are having an Estate Sale at 507 St. John’s Avenue in Red Lake Falls Friday, September 17, from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 18, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. All proceeds go to Alex Gullingsrud, 8-year-old son of Mike and Nikki Gullingsrud of Red Lake Falls, for his medical expenses due to treatments at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Polk County Museum Pioneer Day will be today from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Lunch, pie and ice cream will be at 11:00 a.m. O’Neil Family Musicians will perform at 12:30 p.m., Alex Conwell at 2:00 p.m. and Woodpicks at 3:00 p.m. Fry bread will be served from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., free wagon rides by Point Paradise Stables and Sun Country Petting Zoo from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Plus, Sun Country and You Petting Zoo, display of Hit and Miss engines, blacksmithing demonstrations with Randy Oberg and spinning wheel demonstrations. No admission charged, but free will donations will be accepted. Sponsored by the Polk County Historical Society and made possible in part by an Arts Legacy Grant from the Northwest Minnesota Art Council.

The 16th Annual Red River Valley Sugarbeet Museum Harvest Festival will be today from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Red River Valley Sugarbeet Museum. Harvesting sugarbeets with vintage machines will be at 11:00 a.m. and a tractor pull at noon. People movers and a food truck will be available. There’s free admission. This year they will be honoring migrant works. A free bus will run between the Sugarbeet Museum and Polk County Historical Society.

Kem Temple’s 75th Annual Shrine Circus will be today at the Grand Forks Ralph Englestad Arena.  Showtimes are 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the door.

Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Crookston will not have Sunday School today

The Benedictine Living Community in Crookston is hosting a series of events the week of September 12-18 in honor of National Assisted Living Week. Today is “Sundaes on the Sunday” with the Leo Club. Monday is a movie at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday will be music with Kathy Erickson at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday will be Arts & Crafts at 10:00 a.m. with a special visit from City Administrator Amy Finch at 2:00 p.m. Thursday is a visit from Ag Instructors from UMC at 2:00 p.m. Friday will be a Made to order Omelet at 7:30 a.m. and Bingo at 2:30 p.m. And Saturday will be the Minnesota Twins game at 3:00 p.m. playing in all the lounges. Cub Scout Pack 44 and Scouts BSA Troop 41 are having a sign-up event on Monday, September 13th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Highland Elementary School.  Cub Scouts is for any boy or girl grades K-5. There will be a Teambacker Social sponsored by Americinn by Wyndham starting at 9:30 a.m.  They will  honor the 2021 team at 10:30 and will honor former Golden Eagle Trevor Buttermore, who passed away in 2020, during the seventh inning stretch. An Alumi Social will take place at the Crookston Inn from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The 16th Annual Lillian Bridgeford Memorial Golf Scramble will be Saturday, September 18, at Sandhill River Golf Course in Fertile, Minnesota. Teams of four, the start time is 10:30 a.m., the cost is $75 per person, ($50 for members) all participants please arrive by 10:00 a.m. All proceeds go to the Hospice of Red River Valley. The Sod House Theater is excited to present Arla Mae’s Booyah Wagon, a new play, coming to Crookston on September 24 at the Downtown Square. It tells the story of Arla Mae, a rural Minnesotan who claims to have had Minnesota’s first food truck, in which she made her world famous booyah. The band “No Stone Unturned” will be playing at Drafts Sports Bar & Grill on Saturday, September 25, from 7:00-10:00 p.m. The band features Crookston High School graduate Don Beiswenger, and they will be bringing along other Crookston High School Alumni Musical Guests, Jay Erie, Dan DeBoer, and Pat Shanahan, for the performance. No Stone Unturned plays classic rock with an acoustic twist. There are no tickets for the event, and anyone is welcome to attend.

Crookston Community Theatre announces open auditions for Murder at Sunset Lodge a play written by former Crookston resident and UMC grad, Eric Perkins. Auditions will be held Saturday September 11 from 11-1 and 2-4 at First Presbyterian Church 510 N Broadway.  There are 5 male roles and 3 female roles all over 18 yrs of age. The play will be performed October 28,29 and 30th at the Eagles Hall in Crookston. CONTINUING ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Crookston Public Library has partnered with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to offer free access to the state’s parks and recreation areas. The Minnesota State Parks Library Program offers community members the opportunity to visit any state park or recreation area in Minnesota without paying an entrance fee. The pass provides access to parks around the state for seven days and is now available at the Crookston Public Library, with two passes available per week. Passes may be reserved up to seven days in advance by calling the library at 218-281-4522. The Crookston Public Library is located at 110 North Ash Street. 

The Crookston Public Library’s Books & Brews Book Club meet the fourth Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Drafts Sports Bar and Grill. They will discuss books and enjoy beverages. Appetizers are provided by the Friends of the Crookston Public Library; participants are responsible for the cost of their own food and drinks. All are welcome. 

Twig and Branch Collection will be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, running May through October.  Place the materials on your curbside.  Branches must be cut in four-foot lengths and bundled for the crews to take them away.  Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away.  Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule a pickup. Please note that leaves, grass, and other compostable material must be in the clear City of Crookston bags and will be collected on your regular garbage collection day.

The Golden Link is serving noon lunch Monday through Friday and Thursday evening dinner. The cost is $6. Veterans meals are half price on the first Monday of the month. Call 281-3072 by 10:00 the day you plan to have lunch. 

The Crookston Friends of the Library meet on the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

The Crookston Library Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:15. 

The Cove Youth Center in Crookston is open Monday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Students and parents should call ahead to check the availability of the youth center at 218-470-0149. 

Polk County Public Health is available to answer questions about COVID 19 and help obtain essential services such as groceries, medications, and other daily items at 281-3385.  The phone is staffed Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
