The Crookston Public Library is offering a series of Story Strolls installed around the library throughout the summer. From July 12-17, the installation will feature *Moo *by David LaRochelle. The following week the library’s Story Stroll will feature *The Icky Bug Alphabet Book* by Jerry Pallotta and Ralph Masiello and the week following will be held from July 26-31 featuring *Amelia Bedelia Hits the Trail* by Herman Parish and Lynne Avril.

The Crookston Public Library will offer the event Bee Smart: The Lives of Pollinators on Wednesday, July 14, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Steph will show us how our plants and food supply are kept alive by our pollinators. Find out what it takes to be a beekeeper and what equipment is used.

Crazy Days in Crookston is set for July 15

Crookston Ox Cart Days will host a cookout at Hugo’s Family Market Place July 15th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The cost is free and festival buttons will be available.

UMC Teambackers Golf Classic presented by Altru Health Systems will be at the Minakwa Golf Course on Friday, July 16. Registration will start at 9:00 a.m., and the shotgun start will be at 10:00 a.m. Teams will be handicapped, and the five-member team’s total handicap must equal 60 or more. Participants must be 18 years of age or older or a high school graduate to play. The registration fee is $100 per participant. The Northwest Research and Outreach Center’s (NWROC) annual Crops and Soils Day is scheduled for Wednesday, July 21, 2021.  The event location has changed this year as we will hold Crops and Soils Day in our maintenance/farm operations building.  The building is located on the south side of Hwy 71 on NWROC’s campus. Signs will direct you to parking across from NWROC’s office building. Registration and CEU signup for the morning program is 7:30 a.m. with tours beginning at 8:00 a.m. Registration and CEU signup for the afternoon sugarbeet tour opens at 12:15 p.m. The sugarbeet program will start at 12:45 with two tours running simultaneously.  A complimentary bagged lunch will be served at noon for all guests.

The Crookston Public Library has partnered with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to offer free access to the state’s parks and recreation areas. The Minnesota State Parks Library Program offers community members the opportunity to visit any state park or recreation area in Minnesota without paying an entrance fee. The pass provides access to parks around the state for seven days and is now available at the Crookston Public Library, with two passes available per week. Passes may be reserved up to seven days in advance by calling the library at 218-281-4522. The Crookston Public Library is located at 110 North Ash Street. 

The Crookston Public Library’s Books & Brews Book Club meet the fourth Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Drafts Sports Bar and Grill. They will discuss books and enjoy beverages. Appetizers are provided by the Friends of the Crookston Public Library; participants are responsible for the cost of their own food and drinks. All are welcome.

Twig and Branch Collection will be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, running May through October.  Place the materials on your curbside.  Branches must be cut in four-foot lengths and bundled for the crews to take them away.  Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away.  Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule a pickup. Please note that leaves, grass, and other compostable material must be in the clear City of Crookston bags and will be collected on your regular garbage collection day.

In partnership with the United Way of Crookston, Crookston Public Schools will be offering free grab-and-go summer meals for all children from Highland Elementary School this summer. The program will run every Monday-Thursday from June 7 – July 29. Meals will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm.

Explore Tales and Trails summer Library Experience takes place at the Crookston Library through July 31. Read to win great prizes and attend outdoor events. This program is for everyone ages 0-18. Visit the Crookston Library to pick up a reading log or sign up to participate virtually on your mobile device by downloading the Beanstack app or visiting larl.org/explore. 

The Golden Link is serving noon lunch Monday through Friday and Thursday evening dinner. The cost is $6 and available to the public. Veterans meals are half price on the first Monday of the month. Call 281-3072 by 10:00 the day you plan to have lunch. 

The Golden Link has an all you can eat salad bar for $3.00 the rest of the summer Monday through Friday.

The Crookston Friends of the Library meet on the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

The Crookston Library Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:15. 

The Cove Youth Center in Crookston will be open Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:30-6:30 p.m. for 7th-8th graders and 6:30-9:30 p.m. for 9th-12th graders.  Students and parents should call ahead to check the availability of the youth center at 218-470-0149. 

Polk County Public Health is available to answer questions about COVID 19 and help obtain essential services such as groceries, medications, and other daily items at 281-3385.  The phone is staffed Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
