2021 Heisman Trophy odds, picks, top predictions: College football expert fading D.J. Uiagalelei in best bets

A number of dynamic quarterbacks are near the top of the 2021 Heisman odds board at Caesars Sportsbook. At the top is Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler at 11-2, followed by Clemson’s D.J. Uiagalelei (7-1), Alabama’s Bryce Young (9-1) and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud (10-1). Of those four, only Rattler was a full-time starter last season. Uiagalelei, the main backup to Trevor Lawrence, saw action in nine games, including several starts when Lawrence was sidelined by the coronavirus.

Other 2021 Heisman Trophy contenders include quarterbacks J.T. Daniels of Georgia at 12-1, Sam Howell of North Carolina at 15-1, D’Eriq King of Miami at 18-1 and Kedon Slovis of USC and Matt Corral of Ole Miss, both at 20-1. The lowest odds for a running back is Bijan Robinson of Texas at 25-1. No other players are better than 30-1. Top 2021 Heisman Trophy predictions

One surprise: Hunt is fading Clemson’s Uiagalelei, one of the top favorites at 7-1. Dabo Swinney’s starting quarterbacks have become instant stars in college football as Tajh Boyd, Deshaun Watson and Lawrence have piled up big numbers. Boyd was an early-season Heisman contender, while Watson and Lawrence went on to be Heisman finalists.

But the Tigers have still never produced a Heisman winner, and Hunt sees that trend continuing this year. Uiagalelei will have to share the spotlight with big-time skill players like receiver Justyn Ross and running back Lyn-J Dixon. Hunt ultimately doesn’t think the stats will be there for Uiagalelei to make a serious run.

“He’ll have the wins for sure, but I don’t foresee Clemson’s offense being set up for him to put up astronomical numbers to get to NYC,” Hunt told SportsLine.
